Flights — Ali & Fadi. China Eastern, order 1143-431-471. Out Sydney Sun 11 Oct 21:30, into Narita Mon 12 Oct 12:50 (17h20, 1 stop). Back Narita Sun 18 Oct 16:55, into Sydney Mon 19 Oct 10:00 (15h05, 1 stop). A$1,275 each.

Leo is on his own flights — over earlier for work.

Hotel, nights 1–2. APA Hotel Higashi Shinjuku Kabukicho, 2-19-14 Kabukicho. Three single rooms, in Mon 12th from 15:00, out Wed 14th by 10:00. A$812.34 total, about A$271 each. Free cancellation until 10 Oct.

The Wednesday problem. We check out of the APA at 10:00 on the Wednesday — the same morning we collect the GT-R. An R35 is a 2+2 with a 315-litre boot, so three of us plus six days of luggage doesn't fit. Book the Wednesday night Tokyo hotel, drop the bags there at 10, and the day works.

Day by day

1MON
Tokyo 12 Oct
Land 12:50, straight out
12:50
Land Narita. Allow an hour for immigration and bags — October is busy.
14:00
Narita Express or Skyliner in, about 1h20 to Shinjuku. Set up a Suica in Apple Wallet on the train and load ¥5,000 (A$45).
15:30
Check into the APA. No jetlag excuse — Japan is only two hours behind Sydney in October.
16:30
Walk Kabukicho in daylight first so we know the geography. Then Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) — alleys of tiny yakitori counters, smoke and beer.
19:00
Shibuya. The crossing, then Tasuichi — standing bar, ¥500 (A$4.50) drinks, easiest room in Tokyo to talk to strangers. Nonbei Yokocho after.
23:00
Golden Gai, walkable from the hotel. 200+ shoebox bars; pick ones with English signage. A ¥500–1,000 seat charge is normal and not a scam.
2TUE
Yokohama 13 Oct
Nissan, watches, street karts
08:30
Out early. Yokohama is 30 minutes from Shinjuku on the Shonan-Shinjuku line.
10:00
Nissan Global HQ Gallery, 1-1-1 Takashima, built into Yokohama Station's east exit. Free, weekdays 10:00–18:00. Current and historic cars, racing simulator, sit in anything sold domestically.

NISMO showroom is shut today — weekends only, so it's on Saturday instead. If the Heritage Collection at Zama has a slot, take it over the gallery: 400 cars, whole Skyline lineage.
12:00
Yokohama Chinatown for lunch — biggest in Japan, ten minutes away on the Minatomirai line.
14:00
Nakano Broadway, five minutes from Shinjuku. Best second-hand watch hunting in the world — Jackroad on the third floor, trading since 1987, thousands of pieces. Allow two hours.
16:30
Street karts round Shibuya or Akihabara. Bring your IDP and passport — they check at the counter. 18+, one kart each.
19:00
Dinner, then Kabukicho. Read the "Need to know" tab before going in. Go steady — we're collecting a GT-R at ten tomorrow.
3WED
Hakone 14 Oct
GT-R DAY
08:00
Check out by 10:00. Bags straight to Wednesday night's hotel — most Tokyo hotels hold luggage before check-in for nothing. This is the step that makes the day work.
08:30
Out to Noda. Omoshiro's head office is at 860 Yamazaki, Noda-shi, Chiba — about 1h15 from Shinjuku (JR to Kashiwa, then Tobu Urban Park line).
10:00
Collect the car. They open at 10:00 sharp. Every driver in person with passport, licence and IDP; credit card in the contract holder's name. Reception takes 20–30 min. Photograph every panel.
10:30
South-west to Hakone — 170km, 2h15 via the Ken-O and Tomei. Skirting Tokyo beats crossing it.
12:45
Hakone Turnpike and the Ashinoko Skyline — the best roads within reach of Tokyo. Run them, lunch, run them again. No mileage limit, so nobody's watching the odometer. Fuji across Lake Ashi if it's clear.
16:00
Leave Hakone. Back at Noda by 18:30. The 19:00 deadline is firm — don't push the last run.
19:30
Train back in, dinner in Shinjuku. Go easy — Nozomi in the morning.
4THU
→ Osaka 15 Oct
Nozomi down, Namba at night
09:00
Nozomi, Tokyo Station to Shin-Osaka. ¥14,720 (A$133) reserved, 2h30. Book reserved, not unreserved — October is busy and we want three together. Sit on the right and Fuji appears about 40 minutes out. Buy an ekiben.
11:45
Shin-Osaka, Midosuji line down to Namba, 15 minutes. Bags down, then Kuromon Ichiba for a grazing lunch — grilled scallops, uni, wagyu skewers.
15:00
Shinsaibashi watch strip, all walkable. Ginza Rasin (to 19:30), OKURA on Midosuji, ALLU for Rolex and AP, Komehyo for volume. Kansai often undercuts Tokyo — compare anything seen at Nakano.
18:00
Dotonbori — the Glico sign, the canal, the crab. Then Shinsekai for kushikatsu at Daruma. One dip only, the sauce is communal and they will tell you off.
21:00
Amerikamura. Bar Mustang, Bar Nayuta, Rock Bar Cherry Bomb. Osaka people are far more direct than Tokyo — conversations start themselves.
5FRI
Kyoto 16 Oct
Full day — and we get the dawn
06:15
Out early. Osaka to Kyoto is about 30 minutes — JR Special Rapid or the Keihan line. Roughly ¥580 (A$5) each way.
07:00
Fushimi Inari at dawn. The whole reason for the early start — the torii tunnels are empty before eight and shoulder-to-shoulder by ten. Free, open all night. Walk twenty minutes up and you'll have the mountain to yourselves.
09:30
Kiyomizu-dera and the Higashiyama lanes — Sannenzaka, Ninenzaka — while they're quiet. Then Gion in daylight.
12:30
Nishiki Market for lunch. Five blocks of covered market, mostly things on sticks.
14:30
Optional: Arashiyama bamboo grove, or Kinkaku-ji, or head back early. Don't try all three.
19:00
Okonomiyaki for dinner — cooked on the plate in front of you, and Osaka's is better than Tokyo's, which locals will explain at length.
21:00
Namba and Amerikamura, the big one. Friday runs until dawn. Nobody's driving tomorrow — we're on a train.
6SAT
→ Tokyo 17 Oct
NISMO, then DAIKOKU
09:30
Check out, Nozomi back from Shin-Osaka. 2h30, into Tokyo around midday. Bags to Saturday night's hotel.
13:00
Lunch, then shopping while we've still got the afternoon. Ginza if anyone still hasn't found their watch — Shellman, vintage specialist since 1971.
15:00
NISMO Showroom, 6-1 Daikoku-cho, Tsurumi-ku, Yokohama. Open Saturdays 10:00–17:00, free. This is the one that's shut midweek. Competition cars, R32s through R34s being rebuilt to NISMO spec, parts counter. Same suburb as Daikoku — that's the neat part.
18:00
DAIKOKU. Hotel pickup, 3–3.5 hours with two of them at the PA, then Odaiba, Rainbow Bridge, Tokyo Tower and Shibuya Crossing on the run home. On a good Saturday it's the best car park on earth.

You cannot walk in. Expressway parking area, no station, cameras throughout and a police post inside — police fine pedestrians who try. No published schedule either, so treat it as very likely rather than guaranteed.
22:00
Last night. Shibuya or Shinjuku. Keep it out of Roppongi.
SUN
Home 18 Oct
Out
09:00
Tsukiji Outer Market for a last breakfast — sashimi, tamagoyaki, grilled scallops off the street. Late checkout after if you can get it.
12:15
Leave central Tokyo. Narita Express is about an hour from Tokyo Station, 1h20 from Shinjuku. Narita by 14:00 for a 16:55 departure. Into Sydney 10:00 Monday — take the Monday off.
